Hike to Blue Lake

Jo, Esteban, Connie and I took a hike up to Blue Lake.  I was a bit hesitant  about the whole thing because we had to pay an entrance fee in order to get to the trailhead, something Jo and I almost never have to do, but I have to say that it ended up being worth it.  Take a photo journey with me of the awesome hike we had:
The beginning of it all: The Trailhead.

One thing I really liked about this hike is that it followed water the whole way up.  And you know how I feel about water.

Connie, Esteban and I, taking a break on a bridge.

The trail passed two smaller alpine lakes before it reached Blue Lake.  This is the first one we encountered.  There were several fisherman trying their luck off to the left.

This is another view of the same lake.

And another one.

Look how lush and lovely this steam looks.  We were walking on a bridge, so we got a great view of the running water.

I love the contrast between the verdant streambed and the gravelly slopes in the background.

Here's the bridge I was talking about earlier.
A shot of the trail.  It really was spectacular.  And even though we saw quite a few people, it was very well maintained.

Look at this little mini-lake.  Isn't it cute?

This is another lake we passed along the way.  Esteban had originally planned to stop here and fish on the way down, although that didn't end up happening.

Trail shot.  We are getting close to Blue Lake.

Here's another shot of the lake we passed.  It was quite magical to behold because the reflection of the light on its surface was lovely.  It was so shimmery.

I don't know why I took so many pictures of this lake.

Here's a sweet little waterfall we passed.  At this point we are just minutes away from Blue Lake.

And here it is!  Aptly named, this was one of the prettiest alpine lakes I've ever seen.

The water was icy blue, both literally and figuratively.

We couldn't help jumping in, even though it was absurdly cold. After this, we sat around in the sun to warm up, then headed back.  All in all, a successful hike!
