Fourth of July Fail

This is going to be a short post, but our Fourth of July makes me laugh, so I think it's worth mentioning.  Jo and I had decided to head down to Old Mill Park to have a picnic before walking down to Sunset golf course to watch the fireworks.  What we didn't do was check the weather forecast, which would have clued us in to the fact that it was pouring rain and thundering.  Not exactly the best picnic weather.
So, on to plan B.  Since we couldn't have a picnic in the park, we decided to have a picnic in our living room, instead.  Jo blew up the air mattresses and was nice enough to test them out to make sure they were comfortable.  They passed the test.

Then we prepared our sandwiches, cut up our oranges, and had our Fourth of July picnic.  Because we are patriotic Americans, we made sure to watch Design Star on HGTV.

We were hoping the rain would stop in time for fireworks, but no such luck.  We decided to drive down to a parking lot close to where they were setting off fireworks and watch them from the car.  We watched a plaid family set off fireworks in the parking lot, then drove to another spot even closer to the action.

Fast forward to 9:00, when the fireworks were slated to begin.  Nothin'.  We waited for about 20 minutes, but eventually we drove home, thinking the fireworks had been cancelled due to the rain.  I did get a creepy cool shot of Jo before we left, so it wasn't a complete waste.

And what of the fireworks?  Well, once we were back at home, lounging around on our padded picnic blanket, we started hearing booming noises.  We checked the time and it was around 9:50.  Yup, the fireworks had begun!  Neither Jo or I wanted to go back out, so we watched Design Star with the booming of the fireworks in the background.

And that was our 4th of July.
