Halloween

Halloween!  My FAVORITE holiday!  Check out the decoration:

And, of course, our costumes.  Jo was a pirate and I was a parrot.  We didn't take very good pictures, but you get the idea.  We wanted to hand out candy to the kiddies in the neighborhood, so we did.  Jo probably scared most of them away with his pirate voice, but there were a few brave ones who ignored his sword to grab a candy bar.

Afterwards, we headed up to Fort Collins to play some pool.  Most people had celebrated the holiday the day before (Saturday,) so there weren't many people out.  Next year, I want the rowdy crowd!  We did have a good time.  We played pool on Halloween last year.  A new tradition, perhaps?

Pumpkin Pickin'

With Halloween just around the corner, Jo and I decided that we needed to get a move on and pick out our pumpkins so we could carve em' up.  We set aside a whole morning so we could relax and not have to rush.  We decided to take the scenic route and grab breakfast in a little tiny podunk town called Hygiene.  We stopped at the Crane Hollow Cafe for a little fuel.  I got the fruit plate with a mocha and Jo got a hot chocolate with an omelot.

With our tummies full and happy, we continued on.  There was still some nice color left on the trees, so I snapped a few pics from the car on our way to the pumpkin patch.

We weren't too far away from the pumpkin patch, and as soon as we got there we got right to work looking for the pumpkin.

Unfortunately, they seemed to be quite picked over.  There were some really funky ones lyin' around.  Observe:

This one had a skin disease that we were afraid of catching if we took it home.

Lay it on its side and it would make a great butt!

That's a damn sexy pumpkin, if you ask me.  Just check out that sexy hourglass figure!

And this is just not right.

Not only are were the only ones there without at least two little children in tow, but we also gravitated towards the petting zoo just like said little childre would have.  Sometimes I worry about us.

Last year we saw a dead camel.  This year there were no dead animals, but we did find something that neither of us expected to see in a petting zoo:

It's not the goats and it's not the llama.  Neither of those are unusual petting zoo participants.

The creature that we found so exciting was black and white and furry.  You can see it standing behnind the llama in this picture.  It was a UNICORN!  A real, live, magical unicorn!  Neither of us could believe it.  True to it's nature, it was an elusive beastie and we had a hard time capturing it on film:

Here, we got the body buy the most important part is being hidden away.

In this shot, you can see its magical horn if you look close enough.

Finally, we got a shot of the unicorn that would stand up in court, but it was on the blurry sicde, so we persisted.  The key to unicorn hunting is patience.

Yes!  Got it. A clear shot of the mythical (but no longer,) magical unicorn.  Jo and I felt so lucky to have found such a rare creature in a petting zoo right here in Longmont.

Even though we had spotted a unicorn, we still hadn't found our pumpkin.  So we continued the search.  As you can tell, Jo takes pumpkin picking very seriously.

Well, I guess not too seriously.

We did, eventually find our pumpkins.  I'm sad I didn't get a shot of them, but I can at least describe them to you:  they were orange.  And round.

We also like those little decorative gourds they always sell at these type of places.  We use them to decorate our house and to feed the fat squirrels that frequent our front window box.  We got a couple of those to roundout the pumpking buying experience.

I really do love mums.  One of these days, I'm going to buy twenty of these mums and just cover the outside of our house with them.  We will be known as the mum house and people will come from miles around to take pictures of our glorious front porch.  Sigh.
